I haven't seen the Allen movie, but I'd like to see it now.steve on the slow trainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18257811143869341854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12159522.post-85503992527646161482009-02-10T16:23:00.000-05:002009-02-10T16:23:00.000-05:00I've always been a fan of Mendelssohn... in fact, ...I've always been a fan of Mendelssohn... in fact, I'm oppositional enough that I didn't listen to Wagner for years because of his attitude. LOL

Woody Allen used his work as score for his "Midsummernight's Sex Comedy" which plays tribute to Shakespeare's "Midsummer's Night Dream." Really fun movie! cheers!gnosticserenityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13680963473802745853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12159522.post-43264067230552442272009-02-08T19:26:00.000-05:002009-02-08T19:26:00.000-05:00Olivia--That's just a beautiful line. And I love Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin.

Lisa--Apparently he has quite a body of work--nothing like Mozart's, but considerable. The NPR piece says much of his work went unpublished, partly because he was wealthy enough that he wasn't forced to publish everything he wrote. Also, some of his manuscripts were hidden during the Nazi period, and are slowly being rediscovered. The fact that he was a baptized Christian (the "Reformation" Symphony ends with a majestic rendition of "Ein Feste Burg ist Unser Gott"), his Jewish ancestry meant his works were banned in Germany.steve on the slow trainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18257811143869341854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12159522.post-78977806977325399252009-02-06T16:46:00.000-05:002009-02-06T16:46:00.000-05:00I heard some Mendelssohn a couple of days ago and ...I heard some Mendelssohn a couple of days ago and I wondered for a minute why I don't hear or think of him more often. Now that I know he died at such a young age, it makes sense that he didn't establish anywhere near the body of work that some other more well known composers did. Thank you for this.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00665632105920753931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12159522.post-48235131846188390582009-02-06T16:11:00.000-05:002009-02-06T16:11:00.000-05:00Ah, I do like a bit of Mendelssohn when I take a b...Ah, I do like a bit of Mendelssohn when I take a break from Mozart, Beethoven, or Chopin...

This piece is particularly sweet.Oliviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04014351759393921274noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12159522.post-80393650253591287532009-02-06T13:37:00.000-05:002009-02-06T13:37:00.000-05:00I've enjoyed his stuff.I've enjoyed his stuff.Charles Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02052592247572253641noreply@blogger.com
